About NIHB & Indigenous Mental Health Counselling
At Mind Revive Psychotherapy & Counselling, we provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health counselling designed to support the emotional well-being, healing, and resilience of Indigenous clients. Our approach recognizes the importance of culture, identity, community, lived experience, and the lasting effects that trauma and intergenerational experiences can have on mental health.
The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program provides eligible First Nations and Inuit clients with coverage for professional mental health counselling when eligible services are not otherwise covered through provincial or territorial health insurance, private insurance, or another publicly funded program.
In British Columbia, eligible First Nations clients may also access mental health counselling through First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) Health Benefits with an FNHA-registered mental health provider.
Our counselling services may support individuals experiencing trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, life transitions, stress, emotional dysregulation, and other mental health concerns. Treatment is individualized and may incorporate evidence-based and trauma-informed therapeutic approaches according to each client’s needs and treatment goals

“I’m not sure there’s a braver sentence in the human catalog of brave sentences than ‘my feelings are hurt. It’s simple, vulnerable, and honest. But we do not say it often. We get pissed off, or we hurt back, or we internalise the hurt until we believe we deserve it and that something is wrong with us. But rarely do we say, “This really hurt my feelings.”
